City Council Approves Overpass Agreement
It didn't take long for the Galesburg City Council to approve yet another expenditure related to the first of three rail crossing grade separations planned for Galesburg.

Aldermen Monday night okayed engineering services totaling about 34-thousand dollars possibly for Springfield-based Hanson Engineering, related to the West Main Street Overpass Project.

That dollar figure is contingent on just how much work they do, but City Manager Todd Thompson says they will deal with an important part of the overpass' structure.

"This agreement provides for Hanson Engineering to provide the shop drawing review for the retaining walls as well as the column ground improvement system. Hanson did the engineering on them. This will be basically the administration of the construction of those."

Aldermen did not discuss the proposal when it was presented.

Then again, not many of them were there to discuss anything. Only four council members were in attendance. Aldermen Wayne Dennis, Corine Andersen, and Peter Schwartzman weren't in attendance, and neither was Mayor Sal Garza.

Sixth Ward Alderman and Deputy Mayor Wayne Allen ran Monday night's meeting which, for a change of pace, ran only about 20 minutes.
