Nearly 60-Pound Asian Carp is a Bowfishing Record
UTICA, Ill. (AP) --A bowfishing event has scored a record, nearly 60-pound Asian carp on the Illinois River near Starved Rock State Park.

Robb Kemper of the Team Fish Slayer bowfishing team of Iowa caught the bighead carp during the Bowfishing Association of Illinois event. The group's second-annual Director's Shoot took place over the weekend.

The event aims to promote bowfishing and remove invasive Asian carp from Illinois waters.

Some 48,000 pounds of invasive fish were caught in this year's event.

This year's hefty carp beat the previous bowfishing record-setter for bighead carp by about 16 pounds. That fish was caught last year on the Des Plaines River in Will County.
