Orpheum Finances Are Fine Despite Small Monthly Loss
The president of Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre says don't be deceived -- the theatre is doing just fine financially, despite a month slightly in the red.

Kate Francis told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday that for the month of July, the theatre posted a $500 loss.

But, Francis tells WGIL, that $500 loss is virtual pocket change compared to how well the theatre is doing year-to-date.

"The posting of a $500 loss in one month, given that we are at about a $40,000 profit for the year to date, is not so bad," Francis said. "We don't anticipate that will be a habitual activity for the rest of the year."

The $500 loss, Francis says, was due to the purchase of computer equipment and a server, primarily for a planned upgrade of the theatre's ticketing software.

Francis says that system is a vast improvement over the previous version of their ticketing software, and does a better job of keeping theatre patrons' personal information secure.
