The Fight Against Cancer Returns to Galesburg
Hundreds of Knox County residents all will gather together today, despite the still-oppressive heat and humidity, to take on a cause much bigger than that: cancer.

This is the annual Knox County Relay for Life. It starts at six o'clock tonight at the Knox College campus and will end tomorrow morning. Participants walk all night long among other things to help bring awareness to the fight against cancer.

Organizer Erin Olson tells WGIL a lot of unpaid support goes in to making the Relay for Life happen.

"We have a lot of community support and a lot of volunteers from the donations of our tents that our cancer survivors sit under, to Knox College which is wonderful in donating their site, chairs and tables. Then the day of the set up is just all the committee members and volunteers coming up and filling luminary bags with sand and candles and putting up banners and chairs and tent sites and just getting everybody going for the day."

Opening ceremonies take place at six tonight followed by a survivors lap, and the candle luminaria ceremony later in the evening. There will be games and other activities throughout the night, culminating with the final lap at eight a-m.
