Legislative Assistant to Moffitt Retires
To say Cathy Heimann is looking forward to retirement might be a bit of an understatement.

"Life is short. And I wanted to be able to retire when I could still do some of the fun things I want to do."

Heimann retired Thursday after nine years as legislative assistant for State Representative Don Moffitt in his Galesburg office. It's a job Heimann says she thought she could do, and hoped would come up someday, and did when Moffitt's previous assistant left.

Heimann tells WGIL even though she did notable and important jobs like being a school teacher and working with Knox County Teen Court before that, this job was special.

"I've met some wonderful people," Heimann said. "First of all, working for Don Moffitt is a wonderful place to be, because he's so ethical; he's so honest. We do things by the books, and you know exactly where you stand, and that's good. I've met some wonderful people working with him. I have friends at Burlington Northern Santa Fe that I didn't know before I started the job. I have people in state government who I've met. A few called me up [Thursday] to say goodbye."

Moffitt says Heimann has been his right hand of sorts for a long time, and is in his words, a good sounding board.

Cindy Loshure has already been hired as Heimann's replacement.
