Abingdon Gets TV Production Studio
It's like the equivalent of television going from black and white to color. Abingdon High School will soon finally get a formal television production studio of sorts.

The District-217 Board earlier this month voted to accept plans for the building of a TV studio and adjoining classroom, after plans were tweaked somewhat following the board's vote to table the plan in June.

Abingdon School Superintendent David Black tells WGIL before now, students were doing production in what resembled anything but a studio.

"We just had green screens hanging back where most teachers would have a chalk board or white board. They had cameras they set out in front and raise them up high enough and build a little platform back there so you wouldn't see the table underneath and they would go ahead and film their broadcast. They were making great use of what they had, which wasn't a lot."

That's despite the fact Black also says that Abingdon Schools have a lot more technology in them than schools of similar sizes.

The $115,000 for the construction work, to be done by a Pekin company, will be paid for with money donated for technology by the Zimmer Family Trust.

It's expected to take about three months.
