Woman "Elated" Suspect Arrested in 1957 Killing
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) -- A woman who was 8 years old when her best friend was abducted and killed 54 years ago says she's "elated" that a suspect has been arrested and charged.

Now a grandmother, Kathy Chapman of St. Charles tells the Chicago Tribune that investigators of the 1957 killing of 7-year-old Maria Ridulph last year showed her a photo of suspect Jack Daniel McCullough as a teenager in a photo lineup.

Chapman says she pointed to him as the young man from her Sycamore neighborhood who offered a piggyback ride to her and Maria as the two girls played under a corner streetlight. Chapman says she ran home and never saw Maria again.

DeKalb County prosecutors charged McCullough on Friday in Maria's death.

Chapman says McCullough "took away my best friend."
