Parole Denied Man Convicted of Killing Cop
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP)--Parole has been denied a man convicted of first-degree murder in the 1973 death of a Chicago police officer.

Joseph Bigsby is serving a 200-year sentence in the Danville Correctional Center for the shooting death of Officer Edward Barron.

The then 16-year-old Bigsby was being pursued by Barron following two armed robberies when Bigsby shot the 50-year-old officer. News accounts at the time indicate that in committing the crimes, Bigsby obtained only $4.10.

Bigsby was shot by Barron's partner, Daniel Abate, before being tracked down by police.

In addition to being sentenced in June 1975 to 200 years for murder, Bigsby was also sentenced to 50 years for attempted murder and 20 years for armed robbery.

A group of Chicago police officers attended Thursday's parole hearing in Springfield.
