2 Dead in Rural Fulton County Crash
Two rural Astoria residents are dead after authorities say a man driving a tractor trailer blew through a stop sign in rural Fulton County early Saturday morning.

The Fulton County Sherriffs Department says the accident happened around 12:25 am Saturday on U.S. Highways 24 and 136, also known as the Cal Brown Corner, south of Lewistown.

Deputies say a tractor-trailer driven by 48-year old Robert Austin of Missouri was headed westbound on 136 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the vehicle to collide with a Jeep headed southbound on 24.

Sheriffs deputies say 62-year old Eileen Hammond and 65-year old Curtis Hammond were pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Steve Hines.

Austin was issued a ticket for disobeying a stop sign. But officials say an investigation into the crash continues.

Lewistown Fire and the Fulton County Emergency Management Agency assisted at the scene.
