Peoria Fire Leave 8 Homeless
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Eight people are homeless after a July Fourth fire destroyed the Peoria house where they lived.

Fire Battalion Chief Ed Olehy told the (Peoria) Journal Star that the blaze started on the home's second floor on Monday afternoon and left the house a total loss. He didn't yet know the cause.

No one was injured in the fire aside from two firefighters with minor burns.

The house was divided into apartments that three families lived in.

Victoria Bottger was one of the residents. She drove up after running an errand to see the house on fire. She, a neighbor and a firefighter rescued her two cats and her guinea pig.

Red Cross officials were helping the home's residents find places to stay.
