State's Attorney Candidate Hits the Ground Running
It's official -- one of the prosecutors in the Knox County State's Attorney's Office is running for the top job.

Erik Gibson formally kicked off his campaign Tuesday evening, now that, he says, there have been no disputes over the signatures on his petitions to get on the November ballot and run against current State's Attorney John Pepmeyer.

Gibson told reporters he wants to be as involved in the court process as much as possible, the type of person who will take interest in every case in the office. He says that's not to suggest that the incumbent doesn't do that now.

"It's just to demonstrate exactly what I think is important, something that I think there needs to be more of a push for," Gibson said. "Realistically, I'm more of a hands-on person as far as the cases are concerned. If I'm involved in a case, I want to see it through to the end."

"So I think that's an important factor that needs to be seen."

Gibson says he will be campaigning hard starting with events this weekend in Oneida, and at venues both inside and outside Galesburg -- all in an attempt to get his name out there.

He says he also wants to look at ways to make his office and courtrooms more family friendly and child-friendly.

Gibson, by way of disclosure, is also a part-time sports broadcaster for WGIL.
