State Treasurer Touts Re-branded I-Cash Program in Galesburg
The state treasurer is a businessman at heart, which he says is why a new image is being unveiled for a program aimed at uniting Illinoisans with unclaimed properties.

Dan Rutherford was in town Wednesday to share lunch with the Galesburg Lions Club. Formerly known as 'Cash-Dash,' the new, re-branded 'I-Cash' program was also available for those eating at the America's Best Value Inn to claim any unknown assets.

With 780,000 new names added to the system this week, among other reasons, Rutherford tells WGIL it was time to refresh the program.

"I think it's testimony of us having a 23% increase in putting money back into the purses and wallets of people from the previous year," Rutherford. "And I'll tell you what, by 2012, we'll even exceed that 23% increase again. And I think that's important."

"A $101 million dollars, that's a tremendous economic stimulus package that didn't even cost the tax payers any money."

Rutherford says the advances in technologies has allowed for an aggressive and more searchable database to improve the program. He says there's now $1.5 billion dollars in unclaimed properties to be returned to Illinois families.

In 2011, over 16,000 Knox County residents were re-connected with close to $3.7 million dollars in assets.
