Galesburg Man Allegedly Steals Mower, then Ditches it
A Galesburg man is in custody following the discovery of a stolen commercial lawn mower in a ditch around 5am Thursday morning.

Police say 25-year-old Jason Alderson was located in some tall grass in the area of the mower near Salinda Road and Knox Highway-10. They say Alderson seemed disoriented, and couldn't indicate exactly where he was.

Alderson's knees were freshly scabbed, police say, with dry blood covering his shins. Alderson reportedly was surprised of his injuries when questioned by authorities. He allegedly told them he must have injured himself while mowing.

A Galesburg police report shows he admitted to drinking eighteen total beers throughout the evening and morning hours. Alderson initially gave consent to a breath test, but then changed his mind.

Authorities say Alderson has been suspected of stealing a motor vehicle before, and believe he may have taken the lawn mower in question before driving it southbound into a ditch. Tire tracks suggest he allegedly tried exiting the ditch but was stuck. A serial number matches the mower's ownership to a 74-year-old Galesburg man.

Alderson was arrested on pending charges for Public Intoxication and Theft over $500 but less than $10,000. The investigation continues.
