| District-205 Superintendent Cites State Situation for Retiring |
FIRST REPORTED 9PM 7/16/12 The Superintendent of the Galesburg School District is calling it a career, and state law may be to blame. The District-205 School Board Monday night approved Gene Denisar's retirement effective at the end of the calendar year. Denisar has been at the helm for seven years, but says he's been a part of the district for the better part of 25 years, having been a student, young teacher, and administrator before that. Denisar declined to be interviewed, but reads from a prepared statement, and blames the state for making his job hard.
"For the better part of six months, now, the Illinois Legislature has been crafting reform legislation to fix the state's ailing pension plan," Denisar said. "With the same, I began looking at my personal future. The two have weighed heavily upon me."
Denisar says he woke on July first with what he called a new resolve, and that led him to want to spend more time with his wife and family and enjoy life. But Denisar also cited Senate Bill seven. It's a bill that mandates a system for evaluating school principals, something he and the school board aren't fond of. Denisar will retire with six months left to go on his contract. A search is expected to begin immediately.
