New Barbecue Restaurant May Not Get Burned
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 7/3/12 A new Galesburg eatery that was given a cease-and-desist letter by the City of Galesburg has gotten a bit of a reprieve.

City Community Development Director Roy Parkin confirms that Good Stuff BBQ at Main and Farnham Streets was served the letter Monday, after a complaint call was received. The business is smoking barbecue outside of the former restaurant at that intersection, while Second Ward Alderman Wayne Dennis says the owner is remodeling the inside.

Parkin says assuming they come in to City Hall to file their appeal of the decision Tuesday to the city's Planning and Zoning Commission, they can keep operating for now.

"They would determine whether or not our interpretation is correct," Parkin said. "Until such time that the planning and zoning commission hears it, any actions that we take in regards to moving forward with the violation is frozen at this point."

"So we won't take any additional action. They can continue to exist as they are."

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets July 24th, at which time they'll take up the matter.

It's not the first time an outdoor eatery has been targeted by the city. A hot dog stand operating on the Public Square was similarly shut down several years ago. After Mayor Sal Garza intervened, the stand was allowed to re-open.
