Committee Works Toward Building New Library
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 7/20/12 There's going to be a lot of work done in a short period of time before quotes are sought from architects interested in building a new Galesburg Public Library.

Library Board Construction Committee Chair Mike Kroll said at a meeting Thursday first will be refining a recent needs assessment given to and approved by the board, so that it can be made available on the library's website, and so the potential architects can have it.

Then, Kroll says, it will be time to seek quotes from those architects, and after that, interviewing them.

"One of the requirements I would like us, as a committee, to agree on is that one of things that we tell whoever applies to this is that the people who deal with us throughout the process are going to be the people to do the project," Kroll said.

The library board's Laurie Muelder, "Not a flashy seller who then disappears and other people actually (get in)."

Kroll added, "Anyone who participates in providing proposals and does presentations has to be the same person who's going to carry through on this project."

Kroll -- also a member of the Galesburg School District Master Facilities Plan Implementation Committee -- says many of those who gave presentations to the committee ahead of the construction manager being picked for that project -- haven't been seen since.

Kroll says the committee hopes to interview as many as five or six potential architects by late-November or early December.
