Local Saint Jude Runners Leave for Peoria Saturday
More than twenty local runners will journey to Peoria Saturday morning in support of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

Kim Schrader is already in route, participating in the 465-mile run from Memphis to Peoria. She told the WGIL Morning News this week that because this year marks the event's 50th anniversary, it holds extra meaning.

"So you can imagine that that has created a large legacy of children and families that have gone on to have their own children go on to have families," she said. "The crowd is amazing and the people who are involved, and certainly the extended families of those people. It's a pretty big crowd in downtown Peoria-- which is really neat."

Heather Knicker is running in her 17th Galesburg to Peoria satellite run. She tells the WGIL Morning News the final leg into the Peoria Civic Center always overwhelms her with joy.

"All the patients are lining the streets, and all the support and people clapping and telling you what a great job you've done and how thankful they are," Knicker said. "And then you think, 'all I did was run.' And these kids, what they're going through, is so much more than you can imagine."

Galesburg participants will depart from downtown at 6am Saturday.

All proceeds benefit cancer research at Saint Jude. Peoria NBC affiliate WEEK-TV will be carrying live coverage throughout the day with a St. Jude telethon. Galesburg auxiliary runners will be presenting their check at 7:31pm.
