Local Crop Conditions Continue to Worsen
Leave it to a local agronomist to still have some optimism for local corn and soybean crops despite the ongoing drought that is slowly becoming the worst in recent history.

Local agronomist Lance Tarchione says even now, the corn crop would be helped by rain that's in the forecast for the next several days.

But Tarchione tells the WGIL Mid-Day for the most part, that's where his optimism ends.

"I'm getting into the 'I'll believe it when I see it' category," Tarchione said. "We certainly had a lot of things forecasted that fizzled. It's pretty tough to get a rain when we are in a cycle that we're in now."

"Really from a corn crop perspective we can fill out the corn with moisture at this point, but to a larger extent it's too little, too late to get us back where we would like to be."

Tarchione says you can't really un-do damage that's been done to the corn crop in most areas.

Tarchione says soybeans are holding their own right now, but are about to really need a drink of water soon.

He says that crop would be helped significantly.
