Two Galesburg Men Arrested with Burglary Tools
An overnight report of suspicious behavior at a local hotel led police to the discovery of two Galesburg men with burglary tools.

A police report indicates 21-year-old George Woods and 22-year-old Michael Watkins were arrested after 12am Tuesday on Possession of Burglary Tools charges. Their initial court appearances are pending.

Police say both men were riding their bikes in the area of the Holiday Inn Express when they allegedly jumped the hotel's chain-linked fence. Witnesses say one acted as a "look-out" while the other ran up to the door. Woods and Watkins took off on their bikes as a squad car approached the area.

Police stopped Woods and Watkins at the corner of East Main Street and Michigan Avenue. Both men were taken to the Public Safety Building for questioning, where police say they provided conflicted stories.

Two backpacks were recovered-- one of which contained a hammer, the other: two screw drivers. Records show nineteen assorted packs of cigarettes was also discovered, along with many coins and one-dollar bills.

Police are attempting to crack several recent burglaries reported at the vacant West Main Street Mobil Mart, and suspect Woods and Watkins may be connected to the break-ins. The investigation continues.
