Lego Camp Teaches Robotics Skills
A first of its kind mini-camp is being offered to Galesburg grade schoolers this week at the Discovery Depot.

The 'Lego Robotics Camp' runs through Friday at the children's museum. 9-year-old Alex tells WGIL he's participating because of his love for legos.

"I like to play with them a lot, and when it was electric legos, I was surprised that it was electric," he said. "So I was really excited and then I chose it."

But for the nine children enrolled, spanning from third to eighth grade, these four days aren't just about playing with legos.

"The whole principle of the camp is to help the kids and be involved in discovery learning," Bradburn said. "So they sit and have to solve problems, so high-level thinking. They're having to build something-- (by) following an instruction guide-- build the lego robot, and then program it."

That's Jon Bradburn, Robotics Camp Instructor. He says he's been most excited about the kids' interaction amongst themselves while they're learning.

Campers Wednesday were introduced to touch sensors, and optical ones will be added to each team's 'vehicle-like' robots Thursday.
