Man Charged with Trying to Burn City Building
A Galesburg man is in trouble with the law after he allegedly tried to set city-owned property on fire over the weekend.

Galesburg Police reports indicate officers arrested 21-year old Nicholas Wells around quarter after five Sunday morning.

Officers report that while on patrol in the area of Tompkins and Henderson Streets, they discovered a man sitting on a bicycle, and a window in the northeast section of the city's road salt storage facility on fire.

The fire was quickly put out, but not before officers gave chase to Wells, first as he allegedly tried to flee the scene on bike, then later after he ditched the bike and fled on foot.

Officers say they finally caught up with Wells in the area of the one-hundred block of South Arthur Avenue.

Wells reportedly told officers he did indeed set the window on fire, and that he used a lighter and a water bottle full of gasoline.

That bottle was later recovered.

Wells faces felony charges including arson, criminal damage to property, and resisting arrest. He's being held in the Knox County Jail pending further court proceedings.
