Maquon Blaze Levels Machine Shed
FIRST REPORTED 5:30am 7/31/12 A fire in rural Maquon Tuesday morning completely gutted a machine shed.

Maquon Fire Department Chief Dennis Parker says it was one of the biggest fires the area has seen in quite a while. Volunteer fire departments from London Mills, Abingdon, and Fairview were all called to 286 Knox Road, 850 East, around 6am.

According to Parker, firefighters were on the scene for four or five hours. He says Maquon crews hauled more than 24-thousand gallons of water for lead-investigating department London Mills. Attempts made to contact London Mills Fire Chief Rick Anderson were unsuccessful.

Parker estimates the leveled machine shed to net damages exceeding $500,000-dollars. Inside the large structure he says were various farm tools and equipment, including tractors. The shed reportedly stretched across multiple barns.

A cause of the blaze hasn't yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing. However, Parker suspects a minor fire the previous day may be linked. It was reported and extinguished late Sunday afternoon at the same location. The amount of damage caused by that particular fire is unknown.
