Bring on the Knox County Fair
Neither Mother Nature nor the State of Illinois could keep the Knox County Fair from going on.

The Knox County Fair starts its week-long run Tuesday and ends on Saturday -- one of the oldest in the state having been started in 1851.

Temperatures the last couple weeks have been close to the century mark, and highs this week for the fair will be in the 90's, but Fair Board president Tom Collopy says he's still optimistic for good attendance and reasonably good weather.

And Collopy tells WGIL that's despite what the state could have done with the fair due to ongoing funding cuts.

"We're not alone in that situation, if the funding's not available, it's not available," Collopy said. "So we're just doing the best we can to put on the best show we can at the least amount of money it costs fair-goers to go."

Collopy says a lot of the traditional events will dot the fair week, with harness racing today, a demolition derby on Saturday, and of course the traditional livestock judging and other activities.

There will be some free grandstand entertainment along the way. Described as a rising Nashville star, Justine Blazer will perform Tuesday at seven o'clock.

You can get full fair information online at KnoxFair.com.
