Man Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Assault
A Galesburg man could have received as much as 75 years in prison for the sexual assault he was convicted of, but in the end, there is still a lot of prison time ahead for him.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 55-year old Larry Smith was sentenced by Judge Paul Mangieri Thursday to a total of 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Smith received 12 years in prison for a conviction of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, and another six years for a Criminal Sexual Assault charge. The sentences were ordered to be served consecutively.

Smith was arrested last year for sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13. They say it happened as the result of an investigation in April of last year with the help of the Knox County Child Advocacy Center.

Mangieri found Smith guilty of both counts during a trial that concluded May fourth.

A motion for a new trial Smith's attorney filed was also denied Thursday. Smith could still appeal the conviction.
