Aluminum Castings Matter Before City Council Monday Night
It's expected to pass, but there is still believed to be opposition to a plan by Galesburg's Aluminum Castings to expand right where they've always been in town.

The Galesburg City Council will take a final vote Monday on the firm's request to rezone their property so that heavy industrial operations can happen there.

The firm is in the midst of making a multi-million dollar expansion to their plant, including millions in new equipment, some of which has already been installed.

But a monkey wrench has been put into the plan by 5th Ward Alderman Peter Schwartzman, who continues his opposition to the plan through published columns, despite a city report coming out suggesting that emissions coming from the plant won't cause too many problems, and haven't.

Schwartzman is believed to be alone in his opposition to the plan, though aldermen are believed to have backed his questioning of that.

The Galesburg City Council meets at 6:30 Monday night.

The Knox County Board will hold a special meeting Monday evening at six o'clock as well, and the Abingdon City Council Monday will hear from a resident who claims he has a number of signatures on petitions calling for the resignation of Mayor Roger Stegall, following what they claim is the strong-handed way he allegedly runs the city.
