New Home for Galesburg Police Department Shooting Range
The Galesburg Police Department has a new facility for their use.

Construction recently was completed on a new training facility at the police department's shooting range site on Lake Storey. Police Chief David Christensen says there are a few minor things to do, but the building is otherwise open and ready for use.

Christensen tells WGIL it's something the department can be proud of.

"It's a very, very adequate training facility for what we do here," he said. "We do a fair amount of classroom training at the site, so it really fits our needs very, very well."

Christensen says the facility replaces one that has been there since the 1960's and was transplanted there from another site.

He says in recent years the training classes that would have been held in the building were either held at the police department where it's inconvenient, or simply outside in a picnic shelter-type area the shooting range has.

A formal grand-opening date has yet to be announced. The FBI and state police also use the shooting range and will also be able to use the new grant-funded classroom.
