Second Credit Union Branch Opens in Galesburg
Tuesday was the first day of business for what's now Galesburg's main branch of the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union.

The credit union on West Carl Sandburg Drive isn't your typical financial institution. It provides an intimate environment for members. Branch Manager Christine Denisar tells WGIL members aren't all that restricted from accessing what the tellers can.

"What we tried to do is to basically tear down the walls between the traditional teller line--I've kind of equated it to basically doing business at your kitchen table sort of thing," Denisar said. "Eventually all of our tellers are (will be) trained to open new accounts, do additional services that you'd traditionally have to go to a full-service banker (for)."

The light pours through the abundance of windows as one enters the credit union-- inviting members to engage themselves in so many of the user-friendly features. Denisar says people were in awe Tuesday when they walked in.

The new facility offers remote tellers, a self-serve deposit station, and even a community room with Wi-Fi and a sixty-inch television for members and non-members to rent.

The IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union branch on Monmouth Boulevard will remain open as a drive-up facility only.
