City Council Asked to Support National Railroad Hall of Fame Downtown Location
It's been talked about for some time, but officials with the National Railroad Hall of Fame are officially looking at Downtown Galesburg as their official location. The Galesburg City Council tonight is expected to take up a request by the Hall to provide help in looking for a downtown location for their facility to locate.

Plans for the building of the hall were first announced several years ago, initially intending to locate in the area of Kiwanis Park near Interstate 74. The hall later decided to go ahead with plans to fund-raise and look for another site, believed to be downtown -- all of which has been the subject of some endless local media scrutiny.

A resolution aldermen will vote on tonight not only commits the city to help look for a site, it also asks them to officially support a downtown location for the Railroad Hall of Fame.

The city has identified a number of city-owned properties the Hall could build on -- a map of which you can find by CLICKING HERE (pdf document).

The support of the Hall is the only major action item on tonight's council meeting agenda.

Aldermen meet in regular session at 7:30 at City Hall, following a six o'clock work session related to rental properties and neighborhood improvement.
