Obama/Biden Tour Kicks Off in Springfield
A sunny but muggy day greeted U.S. Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Joe Biden (D-Del.), and an estimated 35,000 spectators in downtown Springfield Saturday afternoon.

Obama returned to the Old State Capitol, where in February 2007 he announced his presidential campaign, to introduce running mate Biden.

Biden could be seen as adding experience, age, foreign policy skills, and tenacious campaign tactics to the Democratic ticket. He says while he likes Republican candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as a friend, someone who admits to agreeing with President Bush almost all the time is not someone America needs as its leader. In fact, Biden continually described the current administration as "Bush-McCain," to further tie the candidate to the unpopular president.

Obama, in introducing his new partner, said Biden is someone who has looked Slobodan Milosevic in the eye and called him a war criminal. But Obama says Biden is also someone who, despite nearly 40 years in Washington, still takes the train home to Delaware each night.

The two made Illinois' capital city the first stop on a tour leading to the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
