Local Man Accused of Battering Another Arrested After Chase
A Galesburg man is in jail awaiting a court appearance after he allegedly battered a man he knows Thursday afternoon inside the man's residence while they were drinking.

Galesburg police say they responded to an apartment at 1077 Hawkinson around 4:45 p-m and met with 40-year old Scott Walker, who police say had a large bump on the back of his head. Walker told police he and a female friend of his were inside the apartment when 18-year old Verne Wall III, the son of the woman in the apartment, stopped by and started drinking with Walker and the woman.

Police reports say Wall got agitated for some reason and started hitting Walker in the face, then struck him several times on the head with a liquor bottle. Authorities say Walker was treated for a mild concussion at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Police say they saw Wall fleeing the area on foot and he attempted to break into a nearby residence, then continued running before he was cornered by police and taken into custody in the 800 block of Hawkinson. Wall was treated at the scene by paramedics for a severe laceration to one of his wrists, then taken to Cottage Hospital for further treatment.

Following Wall's trip to the hospital, he was taken to the Knox County Jail and booked on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, criminal trespass and resisting police.
