| Man Accused in Fight With Girlfriend Arraigned |
A Galesburg man likely will stay in jail after a judge Tuesday denied his request to lower his bond.
Knox County Circuit Court Judge Steven Bordner denied the motion to reduce 33-year old Julius Rogers' 20-thousand dollar bond, despite Rogers' claim that he has no steady income and that there's no way he could post the required ten percent.
Rogers has been jailed since Mid-July on a host of charges: two-counts of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and one-count each of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of Cannabis.
Galesburg Police Officer Bryan Anderson testified during a preliminary hearing Tuesday that he and other officers were called to 81 Lincoln Street around 6:20 a-m July 12th after a 31-year old woman told him Rogers threw her to the ground and kicked her in the face during an argument, threatened to kill her, and also pointed a black revolver at her legs. Anderson says the victim believes Rogers tried to fire the gun twice but it did not go off. He says the revolver was later found in the home, along with a stun gun, marijuana and cocaine.
Rogers' mother told police, however, the victim came to the house intoxicated and wouldn't leave, but Anderson says Rogers and the victim had apparently gotten into an argument after a night of drinking.
A judge found probable cause for Rogers to be tried, and Rogers pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for October Sixth. |
