Accused OxyContin Thief Misses Arraignment Hearing
A Galesburg man was to enter a plea Wednesday on a charge accusing him of stealing a prescription painkiller from a local pharmacy, but that did not happen. 55-year old Steven Jones was to be in Knox County Circuit Court for an arraignment hearing on charges of Armed Robbery and Robbery.

But Knox County Public Defender Jim Harrell told the court that Jones recently entered a 28-day detox program at the Illinois Institute for Addiction and Recovery in Peoria and the hearing needs to be delayed.

Jones was arrested June third; he allegedly went into the Walgreens store at Fremont and Henderson Streets in Galesburg May 30th, handing a pharmacist a note ordering her to give him all the OxyContin pills the store had. Police say when the worker walked away to get the pills, he allegedly leaped over the counter and pulled a knife before getting away with 160 of the pills.

A search of Jones' home allegedly turned up evidence linked to the crime. The arraignment has been rescheduled for September third.
