Governor Opens State Fair
The rides are spinning, the livestock shows are going, and the lemonade shake-ups are flowing. In other words, the Illinois State Fair is open. Gov. Rod Blagojevich, First Lady Patricia Blagojevich, and their daughters cut the official red, white and blue ribbon Friday morning, marking the official opening of the fair's ten-day run.

As Blagojevich walked into the fairgrounds, he was peppered with questions about next week's special sessions. Blagojevich continued to blame House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) and Madigan's supporters for the budget cuts and lack of a building and construction plan. He said, "In many ways, it is deplorable that Chicago Democrats -- ten Chicago Democrats -- who are double-dippers, were the reasons that we killed the capital bill and the jobs bill."

He says if Madigan and the Chicago City and Cook County employees who are also state representatives would sign on, he could stop one-point-billion-dollars in budget cuts and sign a 25-billion dollar building and construction plan.

The fair runs through Sunday, August 17th.
