Moffitt: Nothing Special About Special Session
If it wasn't for the Illinois State Fair going on this week, a local lawmaker says he might very well be wasting his time going to Springfield.

State Representative Don Moffitt will be back at the capitol along with his colleagues today and Wednesday, now that the Governor has called a two-day special session to deal with a slightly-scaled-back capital construction plan, and education funding reform.

Moffitt tells WGIL he knows not much will get done, just by the fact of when lawmakers will be in session later today and Wednesday. "We have been called in Tuesday at 3:00 and Wednesday at 5:00." Moffitt said. "For anything this large, this massive, this significant to pass, a lot of groundwork has to be laid. In the past, when we've voted on those, it would have been legislation that would have gone through committee, a lot of work done, a lot of people on different sides have an opportunity for input."

And Moffitt says that just hasn't happened this time, despite meetings between the Governor and most of the top legislative leaders.

The Gilson Republican says he hopes for the best, but he doesn't think the best is there this time.
