Knoxville Park Hours Shorter as of Friday
By the end of the week, you won't have as much time to enjoy a Knoxville park as you used to.

The Knoxville City Council recently voted to change the hours at James Knox Park from dawn to 11 p-m, to the new hours of dawn to dusk. The new hours take effect this Friday.

Knoxville City Clerk Peg Bivens tells WGIL the city had enough of vandalism and other types of incidents at the park that seemingly wouldn't stop. "We've continued to experience vandalism in our park area, and patrols have stepped up," Bivens said. "We've asked for community comments and involvement, asked the residents to help us in policing the park, and that has helped cut down on the incidents somewhat."

Bivens says Mayor Phil Myers believes the problems will be lessened even further by shortening the hours, even though, Bivens says, there really are no guarantees. She says hours would be expanded based on whether or not there are any special activities planned for the park.
