The event is sponsored by the Knox County Fair Association, and Bridgeway, Inc., University of Illinois Extension Knox County. Top prizes will be given to the top finalists from The Music Factory, Monmouth; Music Makers, Galesburg; and Cherry Street Guitar Company, Galesburg.
The contest is held to display the vocal talents of teens in Knox County. By incorporating the state's "Be Real, Be Drug Free" theme it promotes substance abuse prevention throughout the county. Research shows that teens who have a talent and who are encouraged to pursue that talent are less likely to be involved with drugs and alcohol.
