Disappointment Over State's Alleged Bungling of Test Scores
Officials in the Galesburg School District are none too happy with the state admitting that it mishandled the grading of standardized test scores.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Joel Estes told the Galesburg School Board Wednesday night that there are, quote, "huge problems" with scores from the Illinois Standards Achievement Test, specifically, in the area of reading, and that the State Board of Education expects results to be back in a few weeks.

Estes says it's not necessarily the I-SAT's needing to be re-graded that's the problem.

"Despite the fact that schools have already been informed of their Adequate Yearly Progress, the tests are, in fact, not at this point valid and need to be rescored"

Estes referred to a presentation made earlier in the meeting that suggests that America is too reliant on standardized test scores, and he says to think, the state can't even get those right.

No major votes were taken at Wednesday night's board meeting, though several hirings were made, including a new Galesburg High School athletic trainer (Denise Pollworth, who replaces Ann Pachniak).
