Hare Talks About Trip to Iraq; Full Audio of Press Conference Available Here
A local Congressman says he continues to be extremely impressed with our men and women in uniform fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, now that he's seen many of them in action.

Congressman Phil Hare was part of a Congressional delegation representing the House Veterans Affairs Health Subcommittee, so they could assess the conditions by which soldiers are treated; he also got the chance to talk with some of the top war commanders on the ground there.

Hare talked about the trip in Galesburg Thursday afternoon, and says he was amazed at the, what he calls, world-class care solders were able to give, and were receiving. "They can literally bring in a wounded soldier, sailor, airman, Marine, and, within 30 minutes, have them in a level three facility. A level three is the equivalent here of an Emergency Room," Hare said. "Some of the best equipment, and these aren't tents, these are buildings that they have built, with state of the art equipment. Doctors say that if they can get a service person there with a pulse, there's a 95-98 percent chance of saving that person's life."

Hare says he also talked with a number of troops, who say they believe they've done all they can to help the Iraqi military try and stand up with their own two feet. The Rock Island Democrat believes the only way to get the Iraq military to work on their own is to set a timetable for troop withdrawal.
