Expert Says Obama Community College Funding a Good Thing
President Obama's American Graduation Initiative is a "good start" for one Illinois professor. University of Illinois higher education professor Debra Bragg says new money from the President's $12 million American Graduation Initiative will assist what she considers an invaluable, but under-funded asset: community colleges.

Bragg says community colleges are in a great position to help people learn new job skills at a time when the labor market needs people with middle-skilled jobs, such as in health care. She says the state's programs to help folks who are first-generation college students, or who've been laid off and have never been to college, will help Illinois compete for the government’s grant money.

She would, however, like to see much more money for community colleges.
