Legal Video Poker Debated in Many Communities
Several communities, municipalities and counties have passed or are looking at a ban on video poker.

In DuPage County, the revenue raising idea is being banned from unincorporated parts of the county. The County Board approved the restriction unanimously Tuesday. However, it doesn't apply to cities within DuPage County.

Video gambling was legalized to help pay for a $31 billion public works program throughout Illinois, but local governments are still allowed to adopt their own restrictions. Video poker is estimated to make up about 25 percent of the budget.

Critics say it's a mistake to bring legalized gambling to every corner tavern.

Legal video poker has not yet begun; the Gaming Board is still considering the necessary rules and licensing procedures.

The city of Rosemont has banned video gambling too, and officials in Will and Peoria Counties are considering a ban.
