Still No New Contract for Galesburg's Teachers
It apparently will be down to the wire before we know if the teachers in the Galesburg School District will have a new contract, and allow school to start on time.

District-205's contract negotiating team and representatives of the Galesburg Education Association met for almost 10 hours Tuesday with a federal mediator in order to try and hash out a new deal. But a joint statement by the district and the G.E.A. indicates that no deal has been reached.

They do say, however, that another meeting has been scheduled for next Tuesday, August 18th. The G.E.A. has moved its membership meeting from Thursday, to Wednesday the 19th at 5 p-m -- the day the current contract expires.

It's not clear what the sticking points are, as both sides are not talking to the media outside of the statement they've issued.

School is scheduled to start the week of August 24th, the Galesburg School Board meets this coming Monday night, and the District-205 school board hopes to have a budget in place for the current fiscal year in September.
