Governor Appears at State Fair Kickoff
For the first time in a few years, the governor showed up for the Illinois State Fair Twilight Parade.

Not coincidentally, the state has changed governors since last summer. Gov. Pat Quinn says he wouldn't miss it. Other politicians, including some who want to take Quinn's job, also took part, though Quinn and fellow Democrat Dan Hynes said they were marching in their official capacities as governor and comptroller, respectively. While they will likely oppose one another in next February's Democratic primary, both said people in office now need to do their jobs to help the state through its fiscal crisis.

The parade, always the Thursday night before Friday's first full day of fair activity, is a tradition in Springfield's north end. Bands and antique trucks and tractors were part of it..
