Quinn Opens Illinois State Fair
In a much less tense ceremony than in years past, Gov. Pat Quinn Friday helped to cut the ribbon to the Illinois State Fair, but not before stopping by the ticket booth. Quinn had said that state officials and politicians shouldn't get in free when the state is furloughing and laying off workers, so Quinn put down his $5.

Quinn says he'll spend a few days at the fair, including Veterans' Day, which is Sunday, Agriculture Day, which is Tuesday, and Governor’s Day, which is Wednesday. He joked that he might stay away from the fairgrounds on Thursday, Republican Day, so as not to "spoil their fun."

Even Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin thanked Quinn for showing up on time for the ribbon-cutting. Davlin says it's the first time in years for an on-time start to the fair, which was a poke at ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
