Ice Cream Vendors on City Council Agenda -- Orpheum Theatre Isn't
If you attended Galesburg's Big Bang Boom fireworks show this year, and you noticed any of several different ice cream trucks making their way through Lake Storey Park, chances are you may not see them next year.

No vote will be taken tonight, but the Galesburg City Council Monday evening will hear a formal proposal to essentially ban ice cream and other food vendors from city property.

The ordinance being presented to aldermen tonight states that food and beverage vendors would not be allowed to sell at any public park in the city, unless they have a contract that's been approved by the City Council.

The City claims that such an ordinance change is needed because, for one, having such vendors would be a safety hazard to children walking the parking lots of the city's parks.

For another, the city says, the vendors could cause the city's own food stands at such locations to lose money.

What's NOT on the City Council's agenda Monday night: the Orpheum Theatre's request for $100,000 from the city that would be used as matching funds for a grant the theatre wants to apply for in order to make major repairs.

The Galesburg City Council convenes at seven o'clock Monday night in council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
