Republican Candidate For Governor Against Video Poker
A Republican who wants to be governor of Illinois says video poker is a mistake, one he wants to undo. DuPage County Board chairman Bob Schillerstrom says legalized gambling is fine as a destination, but not in a neighborhood bar.

Schillerstrom told a Capitol news conference that the Illinois Gaming Board is not prepared to regulate the poker machines which would help pay for a huge road and building construction plan for the state. He says he is eager to become governor and help the General Assembly find another way, though he was short on specifics.

DuPage County has outlawed the machines in unincorporated areas of the county. Schillerstrom did say DuPage County would accept state-funded capital projects, even if video poker players elsewhere pay for them.
