State Fair Hog and Husband Calling Winners Named
Repeat winners claimed both the Hog Calling and Husband Calling Contests at the Illinois State Fair Sunday.

Nathan Broaddus of Raymond, Ill., says he practiced in the shower Sunday morning. He does not plan an agricultural career, though -- he is about to enter college to earn an associate’s degree in mortuary science. He says he doubts he will need hog-calling skills in that line of work.

And Kelley Tierney of Cornland, Ill., won the Husband Calling Contest for the fifth time in seven tries. She uses costumes and skits in her act -- this year she was the Tooth Fairy, and her husband portayed a candy-craving glutton. Afterward, she said she has failed in one major area: to attract the attention of late-night TV host David Letterman.

Broaddus and Tierney each win $200. Doris Probst of Effingham entered both contests and took second place in each.
