Airport Lease on Galesburg City Council Agenda; Orpheum Theatre Funding Request Still Not
An item that drew a lot of contention at the last Galesburg City Council meeting returns Monday night, while a request made by one local entity isn't on the agenda for the second meeting in a row.

The Galesburg City Council will take up two motions tabled two weeks ago relating to the use and operation of the Galesburg Municipal Airport.

One is a proposed re-worked lease agreement with Jet Air, that would possibly reduce the amount of money the city gets from the lease by eliminating a gross receipts payment but increasing a tax on fuel.

But the other and the one that drew the most fire was one that would pay Jet Air $4,800 a month to be the official airport manager and be responsible for maintenance once the city's airport and cemetery supervisor retires later this year.

The city intends to replace that role with a newly-created cemetery sexton position.

The city claims it will save about $30,000 a year, while aldermen and the city employees union have questioned that.

Following a city council work session three weeks ago, aldermen Monday night will not take up a request for $100,000 for the Orpheum Theatre in support of a federal grant they're applying for in order to make various repairs to the facility.

It's not clear when or if the request will be taken up.

The Galesburg City Council meets at 7:15 p-m inside council chambers at City Hall.
