Half of Illinois Guard Unit Returning Home From Afghanistan Soon
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- About 130 members of an Illinois National Guard brigade are scheduled to come home from Afghanistan this week.

The return of those soldiers will mean that about half of the 33rd Infantry Brigade have finished their yearlong tour in Afghanistan.

Troops returning this week are part of the brigade's 634th Support Battalion. They have been guarding Camp Eggers in Kabul.

One battalion member died in Afghanistan. Spec. Simone Robinson died in March from injuries suffered during an attack. The 21 year-old Robinson was from the Chicago suburb of Robbins.

Ceremonies to welcome the soldiers back are planned Thursday in Galva, Crestwood, Joliet, and Mount Vernon.

All the brigade's members are due back in Illinois by the end of September.
