Survey Gives Illinois Low Marks on Technology Use
A group is seeking input from the public to help Illinois improve how it uses technology.

A survey on good e-government by the Brookings Institution ranked Illinois 38th out of all the states. That prompted the Illinois Technology Partnership to get involved by asking for citizen suggestions on how to use technology to save time, speed up interactions and save money during a budget crisis.

Partnership interim director Lindsay Mosher says neighboring states are far ahead of Illinois when it comes to e-government.

"For example, if you visit Wisconsin's website, they have a first-time user guide (and) they have a business wizard that helps people find information on starting their own business. Michigan runs ten different podcasts and 72 RSS feeds."

Mosher says part of the goal is to make Illinois attractive to technology investment. She says if you have an idea, go to the organization's website at www.iltechpartner.org, and find the headline about saving state government money with technology.

Mosher says she has received some ideas - like live chat and mobile access - but she wants more before contacting officials with state government.
