Quinn Shows Up at Governor's Day; But Not Gubernatorial Candidate
Governor's Day at the Illinois State Fair is "the place" to make a speech if you're running for office, given the horde of Democrats in attendance and all the media attention. But one major candidate decided to pass.

Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes, who is running for governor against incumbent Pat Quinn, was notably absent from the stage during the picnic and speeches, saying earlier in the day that he didn't want to impose on Gov. Pat Quinn's day. Quinn says Hynes missed a lot of fun, and a good opportunity to talk to people and try to gain their votes. Many Democrats are shaking their heads over what's clearly a lost chance for Hynes to connect with voters.

Hynes also said earlier in the day that the nomination must be "earned" and not "bequeathed," a clear jab at Quinn's ascension after Gov. Rod Blagojevich was thrown out of office. Quinn says he did run for office, and that voters chose to put him in the lieutenant governor's role, knowing that he'd be governor if something happened to Blagojevich.
